I often wonder if it is the opposite. I mean selling to MEC guarantied large quantities sold. Perhaps they were already in decline and wanted to try and boost revenue to save the company?
I agree, from the LBS standpoint they we're shooting themselves in the foot, Cycles Lambert dropped them over night. But from a business standpoint, if you're going under, trying to raise your sales means you'll owe the bank less at the end of the day.

You're right, it's the reign x (x0, x1, x2) only that has 6.7'' of rear travel. It also sports slacker geometry and a burlier fork (the fox 36 I think).

The reason hangers bend is to prevent the bending of your derailleur, which unless you're still running alivio is by far more costly than replacing you hanger.
Same goes for Rocky Mountain too.
Sorry to burst you bubble, but Norco is no longer made in Canada. Assembled maybe, but not made.
I think there is a little overreacting going on here.
Just think of 15mm front axels... Has anyone had an issues getting the traditional 9mm or 20mm spec fork? No
Or what about tapered head tubes and getting non tapered forks? Nope, no problems what so ever.
